The White Oak Initiative , a group of researchers, government agencies and industry insiders dedicated to conservation, estimates that there are more than 100 million acres of white oak across the US, and roughly 75 percent of that is mature. It’s a money-maker for the forestry industry. But it’s also incredibly important ecologically.
