The pet food industry traditionally relies on factoryfarm byproducts for its ingredients, a practice the industry touts as more sustainable as it produces less waste and cheaper food. Farm Hounds Familyfarms often struggle to stay profitable as agriculture becomes more concentrated.
That’s why less than 10 percent of farms still have animals. Previously, it was cost-effective for farmers to graze their cattle or grow their own feed. Although the Wall Street Farm Bill has been repeatedly extended and tweaked since 1996, the core of the law has remained the same.
Worse still, many of them have invested large amounts of money in huge buildings to house factoryfarmed animals, and they are financially exposed with no alternative deployment for the infrastructure they have borrowed on. This is typical of quite a large number of farmers around here.
