Where Has CRP Acreage Increased?

In an earlier article, we reviewed the upturn in Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acreage. In 2021, the program fell to just 20.5 million acres, down from its 2007 peak of 36.7 million. The program shed 16.2 million acres in 15 years, a 44% decline. Since 2021, however, the program has added 2.4 million acres, an 11.8% increase in just two years. The new CRP expansion isn’t what it initially seems.
