Weekend reading: refrigeration!

Food Politics

This book was sent to me by its publisher (Penguin) and was it ever fun to read. Twilley’s subtitle says it all. She connects it to everything. I particularly enjoyed two things in this book: its broad scope, from home ice boxes to economic development in Rwanda, and her personal experiences visiting icy cold packing plants, storage facilities, trucks, and seed vaults on the Faroe Islands.

Opinion: Farm Forward’s Investigation Into Alexandre Farms and the Greenwashing of Large-scale Dairy

Modern Farmer

Industrial-scale dairy wants you to believe that they can turn cows’ milk green. As US milk consumption continues its decades-long drop , industrial dairy is increasingly desperate to hold on to environmentally-minded consumers who aren’t buying what it is selling. When you see a carton of milk at the grocery store with claims like “regenerative” or “carbon neutral,” you should feel as alarmed as you’d be by someone trying to sell you a literal glass of green

The Lunatic Farmer

I go into a grocery store about twice a year, but last week Teresa and I were running some errands and she had to pick up some things so I went in with her. I always gravitate to the meat counter to look at industrial product, prices, and messaging. I saw a most amazing thing at the egg cooler. A molded plastic package had three hard boiled eggs cut in half.
