Amos Miler is a horse and buggy Amish farmer in Pennsylvania who has a Personal Membership Assocation (PMA) of a couple thousand people who voluntarily choose his pasture-based food. Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has been tested in the courts and found to be “not in commerce” due to shared risk. A PMA is one step beyond a CSA and has yet to be tried in court to see if it merits the same “non commerce” designation as CSAs.

What is a Marginal Tax Bracket?

Many times I will get a farmer to ask me what their marginal tax bracket is. But they also want to know what the average rate they paid on their total income. These are two different numbers. The average tax rate is calculated by taking total taxes and dividing it into your total income reported on the return.
