Often, in conventional agriculture, muskeg areas and sloughs are drained and ploughed. Occasionally, we will work with a small tractor, but we use only very light equipment. Then, we planted green manures and cover crops to help build up the topsoil again, which had been pretty depleted over the years. It was literally cooking.
